The Club enjoys an intimate and dedicated membership . . . and if you are looking for a regular game to join, the Club's longtime organizations are weekly institutions out on the course. With groups for men, women, seniors and juniors, these organizations are fast to welcome all members, making them an inviting part of Contra Costa Country Club
First organized in 1976, the Divoteers are a group of women golfers who gather to play nine holes every Tuesday morning. While their focus is on reducing handicaps, they are equally interested in developing friendships, providing mutual support in their efforts to increase their skills and underscoring team spirit in competition. This camaraderie forms lasting bonds and new relationships that become never- ending ties. Membership is open to all interested women golfers over the age of 18, and there is no handicap requirement to join the group.
The Divoteers hold their monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of every month, February through November. In December, the group has a special holiday party where awards are presented for the Divoteer Club Champion, Most Improved Golfer, Birder Club Winners and other past events. The Divoteers also have many other events during the year including guest days, special tournaments and events.
Women's Golf Association
The Women's Golf Association (WGA) was established in 1947, and has become one of Contra Costa Country Club's most important institutions. The group gathers every Thursday morning for a full round, welcoming all female members age 18 or older with a handicap of 36 or less at the time of entry into the organization. They have three major tournaments each year, plus a two day invitational. Beat the Pro Tournament, guest days, Guys and Dolls Tournament (with male partners) and various other events throughout the year. The WGA participates in Diablo Team Play and East Bay Team Play competition with other clubs throughout the East Bay.
Beyond golf the WGA makes contributions to a number of charities. The contributions are funded by proceeds from special tournaments and events such as their annual card party to benefit the Wellness Community, Rally for the Cure Tournament to benefit breast cancer research, and their annual Women's Golf Association of Northern California gives our members the opportunity to play other private clubs throughout the region.
Senior Men's Golf Association (SMGA)
The Senior Men's Golf Association (SMGA) is comprised of male members of the Club who are age 50 or older. The group has two primary objectives-service to the Club and having a good time-and they always deliver on both. As members of the Bay Area Seniors Association, the SMGA host Home-and-Home tournaments with other senior groups, usually on Wednesday mornings. The Senior Invitational, a two-day tournament, is held during the summer with approximately 60 two-man teams competing. The event features tee prizes, raffle prizes, awards and an event-capping banquet.
On several occasions the SMGA has made special contributions to the Club. In recent years these gifts have included the shuttle golf cart that transports players from the parking lot to the clubhouse, new tee markers and three computer monitors for handicapping. Additionally, the group has a volunteer Brigade that greets guests, runs the shuttle cart, stages golf cars and assists the WGA and Divoteers with their special events. The SMGA welcomes all male members of maturity who enjoy good company, like to play a variety of courses and are interested in service. Who would think that joining Contra Costa Country Club gets you, as a Senior, invited to 20 other great clubs a year at a minimal cost?
With the Men's Club, we have created the opportunity for new, old and prospective members to get to meet and play outside their regular groups. Guests are encouraged . . . especially prospective members. Our events are all late afternoon, low-key 9-hole tournaments featuring unusual formats. These fun tournaments are followed by great food and libations on the terrace as the sun sets...what a great way to enjoy our Club and make new friends!
The men also have about 10 weekend events a year including NCGA qualifying events, St. Patrick's Day Scramble, Member-Member in May, and Club Championship in October. Our two biggest events of the year the the 3.5 day Diablo Vista Classic Invitational in September and our Ryder Cup team event in November, where spots are reserved only for the 22 highest points winners of year.
Introducing their children to the game is one of the greatest joys a golfer can experience. Contra Costa Country Club encourages this passing on of the game with a number of programs designed especially for younger golfers. In addition to summer golf clinics with the professional staff, junior golfers may play in the Junior League program for 9-13 year olds competing in a scramble format against other players. As they improve and age, they can graduate to our Bay Cities team for 10-21 year olds competing in the Bay Cities League of Junior Golfers. All of our junior programs are meant to introduce juniors to golf, to the spirit of friendly competition, and to other young golfers from our Club and other clubs.
